Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is calling on his government to reinforce Israel's border with Egypt. The aim is to stem the influx of illegal migrants who, Israeli officials say, are crossing the porous border and entering the Jewish State by the thousands. The migrants are mainly from Eritrea and Ethiopia, although many are from Darfur in western Sudan. They cross into Israel seeking jobs and safety. For Israel's leaders, the 19,000 illegal migrants in the country represent a threat to security - and to the Jewish character of a nation whose mission is to be a safe haven for Jews around the world. VOA's Luis Ramirez traveled to Israel's border with Egypt and to Tel Aviv, Israel's second largest city, and has this report.
