As part of what was said is to be the succession policy, the ruling party, the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) announced that it is introducing the term limitation of government official to maximum of two terms or ten years .
Last Saturday, following the two-day meeting of EPRDF's council, head of Government Communication Office Affairs and member of the party's executive committee, Bereket Simon said at a press conference that the party had decided to introduce the latest based on the succession policy.
“To continue on the leadership of a party, age is taken as the maximum limit. We believe that one member can do better with no problem until he is 65.” Bereket said.
He also noted that his party agreed that a government official can helpful if he is given the opportunity of participating in two elections. He also added that the party believes that an official should not stay in power though he is elected by public.
