EPRDF limits terms of PM, senior officials to 10 years

As part of what was said is to be the succession policy, the ruling party, the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) announced that it is introducing the term limitation of government official to maximum of two terms or ten years .

EPRDF One Step forward
The party said based that on the succession policy it formulated two years ago, the term length of the Prime Minister and other Ministers  will be limited to only two elections.

Last Saturday, following the two-day meeting of EPRDF's council, head of Government Communication Office Affairs and member of the party's executive committee, Bereket Simon said at a press conference that the party had decided to introduce the latest based on the succession policy.

“To continue on the leadership of a party, age is taken as the maximum limit. We believe that one member can do better with no problem until he is 65.” Bereket said.

He also noted that his party agreed that a government official can helpful if he is given the opportunity of participating in two elections. He also added that the party believes that an official should not stay in power though he is elected by public.

Why was this could not be implemented while PM Meles was alive???????????? It seems Meles wanted to rule Ethiopia forever if God himself cut it short to 21 years. Shame upon him and his EPRDF party!!!!!

This is a good policy opposition parties should adopt too..........the 65 years age limit would get rid most of the Derg era useless, self-serving politicians. That is great for the country!

lets hope this is the beginning of a real democratic country. I like the fact that there is a limitation put in place so one person does not abuse their authority. now lets hope if they would allow other parties to participate in the political arena so the ethiopian people can choose their leader based on who they feel can lead them or govern them to the right path.
