Advertisement Tirunesh Dibaba, the double Olympic champion, and Tariku Bekele, the
brother of long-distance giant – Kenenisa Bekele, clinched the 5K titles
at the 2010 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on July 3, 2010.
Both hail from the State of Oromia in Ethiopia. Tirunesh Dibaba finished the women’s 5K at 14:34.07, smashing the
Meeting Record (MR) set by her compatriot Meseret Defar in June 2008. Tariku Bekele clocked the first sub-13 minutes 5K in the U.S. by
reaching the finishing lines at 12:58.93.
