About 900 Ethiopians infiltrate to Yemen in two weeks

SANA'A, Dec. 23 (Saba) - About 900 Ethiopians have sneaked to Yemen during the first half of December, Interior Ministry has reported.

According to reports from the coastal provinces the Ethiopian infiltrators, 22 – 50, were male including 42 women.

It is worth to mention that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that more than 74,000 African people moved to Yemen in 2009 with an increase of 50 percent compared with 2008.

GENEVA (Reuters) - More than 74,000 Africans fled to Yemen this year, a 50 percent increase over 2008 despite instability in the country, according to figures issued on Friday by the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Upheaval and economic strains in the Horn of Africa fueled a rise in migrants paying smugglers and undertaking the hazardous sea crossing, said UNHCR spokesman Andrej Mahecic.

Over 1000 Ethiopians sneak into Yemen

SANA'A, Dec. 06 (Saba) - Over 1000 Ethiopians sneaked by several smuggling boats into Yemeni coasts last November, Interior Ministry has reported.

The security authorities in the coastal provinces said the number of Ethiopians who sneaked into the Yemeni lands last month reached 1,048 persons, including 100 women.
