Ethiopia PM says world not serious on climate change

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, who will represent Africa at next month's Copenhagen climate change talks, said on Thursday it was unlikely the world was serious about tackling global warming.

The United Nations summit in Denmark will try to agree on how to counter climate change and come up with a post-Kyoto treaty protocol to curb harmful emissions.

Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Africa’s point man at the Copenhagen climate-change summit next month is prime minister of drought- stricken Ethiopia, a former Marxist rebel who favors tailored suits and has coaxed billions of dollars in aid from the West.

Meles Zenawi, 54, who trained as a doctor before taking up arms and eventually toppling the country’s Communist regime in 1991, in August was named climate spokesman for Africa, the continent scientists say is most vulnerable to global warming.


Meles Says Consent of parties on election code of conduct makes full-fledged democratic election

Addis Ababa, October 30, 2009 (Addis Ababa) - Chairperson of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) Meles Zenawi said the agreement signed by four political parties is binding for contesting parties to make the upcoming election fair and democratic.

The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) , All Ethiopian Unity Organization (AEUO), the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP) and the Coalition for Unity and Democracy Party (CUDP) signed the code of conduct on election and its implementation strategy document here on Friday .
