And also Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said the
ongoing trend of political activities demonstrate that democratic order
is deepening in the country.Meles reaffirmed government’s
commitment to make the upcoming election peaceful, democratic and
truthful.
The premier said the nation is expected to
register a double digit growth.
In a press conference he
gave to foreign journalists here on Thursday Meles said law of code of
conduct which was endorsed by majority of political parties has been
issued by incorporating international practices.
The trend
for the allotment of airtime for political parties is as per their seats
in parliament, he said, however EPRDF willingly decreases its time for
other political parties.
Meles said the established joint
councils of political parties at all levels are addressing the
complaints arising from any political parties.
Meles said
some groups are trying to downplay the ongoing election process here and
abroad. However, he said government is following very closely the
mutinous acts of theses groups.
He urged the entire public
and all stakeholders should follow such mutinous act of destabilizing
forces during election.
Regarding economic growth Meles
said “ The export performance has been quiet good .It was low initially
making the necessary growth but the outcomes in the last eight months
show that country’s export has grown by 21.9 percent and is expected
good growth rate and the economic as a whole”
Asked about
his reflection on US State Department 2009 Human Right Report, Meles
said the report is a duplication of 2008 similar report.
The
funny part of the report, he said they don’t even try to verify facts. “
If there are lies, they would be plausible lies” Meles noted.
The
premier responded to issues including Somalia’s parties, recent IGAD
Summit held in Kenya, BBC’s allegation against TPLF diverting food aid
to military procurement during 1984 drought, gov’t measures against tax
evaders, Somalia’s recent parties’ agreement among others.
The issue has never been about TPLF letting food in, it was about the TPLF selling aid food for the migrants in Sudan and using the money to buy weapon. That is the truth, and will always remain to be the truth. Meles killed more Tigryans than the famine.
